On Friday, a federal judge ruled that Obamacare is unconstitutional, putting the future of the healthcare law in jeopardy.
Moments after the ruling, President Trump took to Twitter and praised the Texas judge for his decision to drop the hammer on Obamacare.
“As I predicted all along, Obamacare has been struck down as an UNCONSTITUTIONAL disaster! Now Congress must pass a STRONG law that provides GREAT healthcare and protects pre-existing conditions. Mitch and Nancy, get it done!” he tweeted.
In another tweet, the President added:
“Wow, but not surprisingly, ObamaCare was just ruled UNCONSTITUTIONAL by a highly respected judge in Texas. Great news for America!”
U.S. District Court judge Reed O’Connor, a George W. Bush appointee, ruled Obamacare must be nixed because the penalty for not being insured was removed by Congress.
The decision is likely to face appeal the Fifth Circuit immediately.
According to Politico,
“The decision will be immediately appealed, said California Attorney General Xavier Becerra, who led a group of blue states in intervening to defend the law. It could ultimately become the third major Obamacare case to be taken up by the Supreme Court, which has twice voted to uphold the law.”
