Former Vice President Al Gore said he supports an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump.
Al Gore appeared on ABC’s This Week on Sunday and said he believes criminal allegations against President Trump are credible and supports House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler’s numerous investigations into the president.
“My own view is that not seeking accountability for what appear to be credible allegations that crimes were committed — meaningful crimes — runs the risk of normalizing that behavior,” said Gore, who was Vice President when President Bill Clinton was impeached.
“I think what is going on now with Chairman Nadler is the right course of action, and that is to gather evidence and begin an inquiry to see what other evidence is available and then make that a decision to go forward when the time comes,” he added.
Following the release of Robert Mueller’s Russia report and his testimony before Congress, dozens of House Democrats openly supported an impeachment inquiry against Trump. The former special counsel found no evidence of collusion between Trump and Russia, but did not make a decision on whether he obstructed justice during the probe.
