Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she still supports impeaching Trump

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez states she still supports the idea of Trump impeachment, despite the fact that House Speaker Pelosi is against it.

“I think you could reach in a bag and pull so many things out that are impeachable of this president. I support impeaching this president,” the freshman lawmaker told Yahoo News’ “Skullduggery” podcast Sunday evening.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez stated she will most likely sign a resolution introduced by Rep. Rashida Tlaib that calls for Congress to launch investigations into Trump.

“We hadn’t signed on when it was first introduced, but we probably will,” Ocasio-Cortez said of the resolution. “We’ll take a look into it.”

The New York Democrat said there are “many things” Trump has done that would constitute grounds for impeachment but she singled out violating the emoluments clause of the Constitution as the most egregious.

“I think it’s always been emoluments,” Ocasio-Cortez told the podcast. “It’s always been about that for me.”

Ocasio-Cortez also said she believes Trump has committed tax fraud.

She cited testimony from Michael Cohen, the president’s former lawyer, at a House panel in February that Trump over inflated his assets to get loans and deflated the value of his properties to lower his tax payments.

But she downplayed special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election, which according to Attorney General William Barr cleared Trump of colluding with the Kremlin.

Ocasio-Cortez said part of the Russia probe “comes down to emoluments. It comes down to pay-for-play, financial transactions, Trump Tower – it comes down to money.”

“If we had gotten something from the Mueller report then I would probably put that up there as No. 1, but I feel like it’s a little risky to put the entire grounds of impeachment … to put all yours eggs in that basket,” she said, adding that emoluments “includes any kind of financial misconduct.”
