CDC warns U.S. could see several more weeks of flu activity

The CDC has just issued a warning that flu activity is still on the rising in the US. In addition, there are still several weeks left from the flu season. It is considered that this has the potential to become one of the worst flu seasons in the history of America.

From The Hill:

Flu activity is still on the rise in the U.S., government officials said Friday, with several weeks left to go in the flu season.

“Unfortunately, it looks like this flu season continues to be particularly challenging,” said Anne Schuchat, acting director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

“The flu is incredibly difficult to predict, and we don’t know if we’ve hit the peak yet. We’re only at week 11. We could potentially see several more weeks of increased flu activity.”

Levels of influenza-like illness across the country are now as high as it was during the peak of the 2009 H1N1 pandemic.

Hospitalization for the flu is the highest its been since the CDC began tracking that information 10 years ago.
