James Clapper: ‘We’re Losing Sight’ of How the Russia Investigation Started

James Clapper is disregarding the news that AG William Barr took the first steps to conduct an investigation on the origins for the 2016 Russian probe.

During an interview on CNN, the former Director of National Intelligence was asked if this investigation is justified after AG Barr assigned U.S. Attorney John Durham to lead the investigation.

Clapper’s answer was that “you’re going to have to stand in line and take a number to do an investigation of the investigators.”

“There is a substantial investigation, which as I understand it, is nearing completion, being conducted by the Justice Department Inspector General,” Clapper said. “I’d wait for the outcome of that to determine if there needs to be more investigations.”

James Clapper then continued arguing that “we’re kind of losing sight” of the fact that the investigation was caused by Russian interference in the 2016 election.

Clapper said that the focus at the time was in figuring out what the Russians were doing, but now, “the message I almost take away from this is, ‘well, we should have ignored that.’”

“That was a profound threat and still is to our electoral system,” Clapper said. “I wish people would pay more attention to volume I of the Mueller report, the exhaustive detail about what the Russians did. We’re losing sight of that.”
