Laura Benanti made an appearance on the Late Show on Friday with another role as first lady Melania Trump to talk about the recent body double conspiracy theory.
The conspiracy theory alleges that the first lady uses a body double to accompany her husband on trips and cites supposed differences in her appearance.
Even President Donald Trump and First Lady’s office felt the need to reply earlier this week.
The Late Show host Stephen Colbert started by saying that this is “nothing more than a wild conspiracy theory.”
Then, after saying the show had a “source,” that could put an end to the rumors, Benanti appeared as Melania.
“It makes no sense. How can there be two Melania Trumps? Think about it! Doesn’t it seem crazy that there is even one?” Benanti asked.
She added that if she was going to use a double, it would be in private “when a Donald knocks on my bedroom door.”
Speaking about Trump’s brief briefings, Benanti said: “When he knocks on my door and he asks for a presidential briefing. It’s over in two minutes and he spends the whole time confused.”
Next, she was asked if Trump considered a body double. “We couldn’t train manatee to walk on two legs,” said Benanti.
In a surprise move, Benanti left in a huff, and new Melania, played by Christine Baranski, appeared.
“I am married to Donald Trump and we are in …. oh I can’t do this,” she said, walking off.
But they didn’t stop there.
Comedian Brian Stack also made an appearance as Melania number 3.
What are your thoughts on this? Do you believe they went too far?
