Once a relatively unknown lawmaker, Stefanik Elise rocketed to conservative stardom this week during the House impeachment hearings. During one particularly viral moment, Stefanik called out House Intel Committee Chairman Adam Schiff directly for being in favor of the Trump whistleblower testifying – before being against it. She brought up a dozen of Schiff’s own past statements on the matter to make the case.
The chairman sat stone-faced throughout the whole moment.
Stefanik’s high point sparked criticism from liberal corners, including from media personalities.
“Elise Stefanik is a perfect example of why just electing someone because they are a woman or a millennial doesn’t necessarily get you the leaders we need,” ABC News Chief Political Analyst Matthew Dowd said in a tweet Wednesday. He later apologized and deleted the post, saying he had been misunderstood.
Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley immediately blasted the left’s attacks on Elise Stefanik, tweeting:
“Liberals are pro women until we say or think something they don’t like then the name calling begins. @RepStefanik, keep up the great fight. We have your back. ❤️🇺🇸“
Other Americans also called out the left for being hypocritical:
“How funny the libs are. They attack ant strong conservative woman but idolize the crazies like AOC” wrote one user.
“By far, the people most attacked & harassed by liberals, are the people who don’t share their ideology in groups they think they own.” added another one.
