Pelosi hits back at Trump on his claim of congressional ‘harassment’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi responded to President Donald Trump’s claims of “harassment” by Congress, claiming that the president was “projecting.”

“I always think whatever the president says about us, he’s projecting his own unruliness,” Pelosi said of Trump at her weekly press conference. “He’s a projector and that’s what it’s about.”

Pelosi’s remarks come after initially stating she wouldn’t comment on Trump’s attacks, after escalating rhetoric that followed the president’s warning shot to Congress during his Tuesday State of the Union speech.

“Let me just say, I am not commenting on what the president has to say about our work,” Pelosi told reporters in the Capitol.

Trump blasted “ridiculous partisan investigations,” during his State of the Union speech, saying that “if there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation. It just doesn’t work that way!”

That prompted congressional leaders including Majority Leader Steny Hoyer and Pelosi to say they took his remarks as a threat. Chairmen including Intelligence head Adam Schiff vowed to keep up their oversight – and Schiff announced his probing would extend to Trump finances and any links to Russia.

House Ways and Means Committee chair Rep. Ritchie Neal of Massachusetts on Thursday holds a hearing that is the first step in trying to get Trump’s tax returns.

“I think overwhelmingly the public wants to see the president’s tax returns,” said Pelosi. “They want to know the truth they want to know the facts.”

Then, she said with a slight smile: “He has nothing to hide.”
