Today, the Congressional Democrats had a closed-door meeting in order to discuss about impeaching Trump. House Speaker Pelosi organized the meeting as a response to the growing pressure in the Democratic party to “do something” about Trump.
However, as the doors opened and Pelosi spoke to the press, no specifics were mentioned nor any actions and announcements. House Speaker Pelosi stated that the meeting was only ” respectful exchange of ideas” and nothing more.
On the other hand, Pelosi had some strong words for President Trump. As you probably know, she is meeting him later on today.
“We do believe that it’s important to follow the facts. We believe that no one is above the law, including the President of the United States,” said Pelosi.
“We believe the President of the United States is engaged in a cover-up. In a cover-up,” she said. “And that was the measure that we need.”
Earlier today, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn spoke on the topic of impeachment as well.
“The vast majority would, in fact, support impeachment, just not now,” Clyburn said during a CNN interview. “The issue now is whether or not that is something that should be done today or tomorrow, or whether or not we go through a process by which we build a foundation upon which to successfully impeach the president.”
“So that’s where we are. We are all looking forward to the day when that might be ripened,” Clyburn said. “We have not gotten there yet. That is the difference between the majority of the caucus right now and the very strong minority who would like to see us move forward with impeachment right away.”
