Trump Blasts John Dean After House Judiciary Hearing

President Donald Trump slammed former Nixon White House counsel John Dean after he likened the president’s conduct during the Russia probe to the Watergate scandal.

“John Dean’s been a loser for many years,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

During a hearing before the House Judiciary Committee on Monday, Dean said “the Trump administration is in fast competition with what happened in the Nixon administration.”

Trump denied there are any similarities to himself and President Richard Nixon, who resigned in 1974 before Congress could impeach him.

“You can’t impeach somebody when there’s never been a thing done wrong,” Trump said. “When you look at past impeachments. … there’s a big difference, I don’t leave.”

In his opening statement to the House Judiciary Committee, John Dean told lawmakers that he was not there as a “fact witness” on the Mueller report findings.

“Chairman Nadler, Ranking Member Collins, the last time I appeared before your committee was July 11, 1974, during the impeachment inquiry of Richard Nixon. Clearly, I am not here today as a fact witness. I accepted the invitation to come here today because I hope I can give a little historical perspective on the Mueller report,” Dean said.
