President Donald Trump defended House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Friday over her feud with freshman lawmaker Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Trump criticized Ocasio-Cortez when he was asked about the simmering feud as he left the White House for Wisconsin and Ohio.
“I think Cortez is being very disrespectful to somebody who’s been there a long time,” Trump said, referring to the New York lawmaker.
“I deal with Nancy Pelosi a lot and we go back and forth and it’s fine, but I think that a group of people is being very disrespectful to her,” he continued. “And you know what, I don’t think that Nancy can let that go on.”
Ocasio-Cortez “should treat Nancy Pelosi with respect,” he added.
The freshman congresswoman expressed frustration with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after she gave an interview in which she downplayed the significance of “the squad,” a quartet of AOC, Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley.
“All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” Pelosi said. “But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.”
