President Donald Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday and ripped the “LameStream Media” for trying to cause a recession.
“The Fake News LameStream Media is doing everything possible the ‘create’ a U.S. recession, even though the numbers & facts are working totally in the opposite direction,” the president tweeted. “They would be willing to hurt many people, but that doesn’t matter to them. Our Economy is sooo strong, sorry!”
The president’s tweet comes days after the stock market plunged 800 points, causing a number of economists to suggest a recession could come in the near future. According to a recent poll by the National Association for Business Economics, 72% of economists polled believe the United States will face a recession in 2020 or 2021.
Trump’s accusation that the media is hoping for a recession has been floated by Fox News personalities in recent days.
On Monday, Fox & Friends hosts made the claim, with Ainsley Earhardt pointing out that it’s “so obvious.” Charles Payne argued that there “seems to be a deliberate attempt” to force a recession.
Another Fox News personality Martha MacCallum accused MSNBC and CNN personalities of being “giddy” at the idea of a recession.
